Your identity is what you say it is, because you say it is, and nobody knows your internal experience better than you do. Working with LGBTQIA clients, we aim to provide an environment of safety and trust, with an attitude of welcoming and respect. We show our respect and understanding of your identity and experience by using your name and pronouns, and without assuming that your identity is a problem or the reason you’ve come in. This is a place where you are seen and valued for who you are.
We help clients with a range of struggles including, but not limited to:
- Navigating the coming out process
- How to deal with evolving relationships with family and friends
- Exploring and developing your identity and identity expression
- Dating and romantic relationships
- Connecting with helpful community resources, and navigating logistics and bureaucracy and learning to self advocate in a system that does not always recognize you.
Some of our clinicians identify as members of the LGBTQIA community, but we all strive to continually increase our understanding. We recognize that understanding is not a static end point, but an ongoing process. We approach this process with open minded humility, as there is always more to learn.
